Operations Manager - Memphis

Memphis, TN

Position Overview:

The Operations Manager logistical leader who leads the Lot Operations and Transportation teams. You will develop a high-performing team focused on sale-day execution, ensuring the lot is organized and vehicles move efficiently through the entire lifecycle, from check-in to check-out. This role requires high partnership with the Inspection leader to align physical lot moves with digital workflows.

 

What you’ll be doing:

Lead the Operations Team :

  • Logistical Leadership: Act as the at-auction point person for all lot operations and transportation management needs.
  • Sale Day Execution: Direct the scheduling of lane personnel and drivers; verify lane starts and ensure vehicles flow efficiently and safely through auction lanes.
  • Lot Organization: Ensure lot personnel register all incoming vehicles, verify lot reports, and maintain inventory control for lot and operations equipment.
  • Operational Efficiency: Manage assets and business resources to minimize operational expenses while maximizing equipment and personnel utilization.
  • Customer Support: Provide prompt, courteous, and efficient service to all customers, resolving complaints and issues in a friendly manner.

 

(Depending on site size) Lead the Facilities Maintenance, Reconditioning 

  • Facilities Maintenance:  maintain site standards and facilitate repairs through work orders or site level repair initiatives. 
  • Reconditioning: manage site reconditioning in the Body, Mechanic , and Detail shops through effective support car day ready vehicles. 

 

Teams Led: 

  • All sites: Drivers & Sale Day Drivers, Transportation, Lot Operations, Lot Operations
  • Depending on site size: + Custodian/ Maintenance, Reconditioning

 

All Manager Roles:

  • Lead auction activities to drive retention, profitability, customer experience, and safety. Monitor and ensure adherence to systems, policies, procedures, and performance standards.
  • Influence and lead others as a people, customer, and business manager.  Engage with customers and employees in a transparent, reliable, and positive manner
  • Participate in the development and execution of strategic plans, goals, processes, and objectives, ensuring alignment with those of the company.  Identify and implement appropriate staffing and scheduling needed based on workload and volume.
  • Proactively communicate information to team members, providing a clear understanding of expectations, performance measures, and goals.  Collaborate with stakeholders to optimize processes.
  • Oversee day-to-day activities of assigned team; identify team’s strengths and weaknesses; determine areas of opportunity and the appropriate steps to improve.
  • Provide training, mentoring, and accountability to direct reports and succession planning through appropriate coaching, leadership development, training, and performance management.
  • Create a work and team environment that inspires positive communication, team cohesion, and adherence to Carvana’s Values.
  • Conscientiously work in ways that decrease the possibility of injury to yourself or other team members due to spills or other preventable hazardous conditions.

  • Bachelor's degree preferred
  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent
  • Minimum 5 years of related industry experience, preferably with lean manufacturing principles
  • Minimum 1 year of leadership/supervisory experience
  • Proven ability to multitask while maintaining attention to detail
  • Ability to effectively delegate tasks to team members.
  • Confidentiality and integrity while handling sensitive information
  • Proven ability to manage deliverables and metrics against aggressive targets and timelines
  • Proficiency with computer systems and applications
  • Ability to maintain high volume and high-quality content in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to communicate and interact with others effectively in a professional, courteous manner.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both written and oral.
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize effectively.
  • Ability to resolve complex issues with guidance from others.
